This tour includes
You will receive a first impression of the iconic St. Petersburg’s landmarks: buildings and monuments, streets and squares, gardens and parks; you’ll briefly glimpse the key events of the city’s history. Our driver will guide you through experiences you won’t easily get on your own. On the trip, you’ll get an initial taste of St. Petersburg and decide on your plans for a more thorough introduction.
You will visit the Peter and Paul Fortress: the historic center of St. Petersburg, one of the few remaining citadels in Europe, and the main political prison of tsarist (and later Bolshevik) Russia. This tour will take you to the Zayachy island where the fortress itself is located.
You will also visit the Peter and Paul Cathedral with its famous tomb of the emperors, where you will see the burial places of Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, Alexander III, Catherine II, and, of course, the sepulchre of Peter I, the city’s eponymous founder.
Our next stop will be the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. Its multi-colored domes, brick patterns, corbels, and pilasters make it stand out among the architectural ensemble of the city’s center. Who dared to disturb the Imperial capital’s strict and majestic image with such liberties? The reason was a tragedy: Ignaty Grinevitsky, a left-wing terrorist, has mortally wounded the emperor, Alexander II the Liberator, on this very site. Savior on Spilled Blood is a memorial church, built on the place of a regicide.
